The Star Tribune reported Sept. 22 that Securian Financial donated a large sum of money to Minnesota Future, an organization that has been funding ads in support of Tom Emmer, the Republican candidate for governor. Securian is one of a handful of financial investment firms where faculty can place their University of Minnesota retirement funds.
For those of us in the faculty retirement system who think it is wrong for corporations to make large donations to political campaigns, one way to communicate to Securian that the firm should stop making donations to influence elections in Minnesota is to move our retirement money to a different firm.
