Renowned environmentalist to speak on West Bank Sunday

Renowned environmentalist John Francis will bring his unique brand of humanitarian-styled environmentalism to the University of MinnesotaâÄôs West Bank on Sunday. Francis, nicknamed the Planetwalker, began promoting environmental consciousness in 1971 after witnessing an oil tanker spill in San Fransisco Bay. Francis gave up using automobiles and began a trek walking across the United States to learn, listen and teach about environmental issues. Through his travels, Francis developed a unique definition of environment that involves humanitarian issues like social justice and economic equality. âÄúIf we are part of the environment, how we treat each other is very indicative of whatâÄôs going to happen in the physical environment,âÄù Francis said. Francis will be speaking in Wiley Hall at 3 p.m. Sunday as part of the Outdoor Adventure Expo. Check MondayâÄôs Daily for more information.
