CBSSports.com released its Week 7 college football power rankings, and it requires a decent amount of scrolling down the page to find Minnesota.
The Gophers (1-5, 0-2 Big Ten) rank 114th of the 120 Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) teams. They are third to last among teams with a win, ahead of Rice and New Mexico State.
The second-lowest Big Ten team on the list is Indiana (3-2, 0-2 Big Ten) at No. 73.
Minnesota’s only win of the season was a 24-17 victory over Middle Tennessee State on Sept. 2. The Blue Raiders (2-3) are No. 96 on the list.
The power rankings consider a team’s strength of schedule combined with votes from CBSSports.com writers, editors and producers.
The Gophers rank 11th in the Big Ten in the following categories: points allowed (32.3 per game), rushing defense (196.3 yard per game), sacks (3) and opponent third-down conversions (50.8 percent). They are also 10th in total defense (417.8 yards per game), opponent first downs (120), red zone defense (95 percent), field goals (6-for-10) and punting (34.3 yards per punt).
Minnesota will try to end its five-game losing streak this Saturday at Purdue (3-2, 1-0 Big Ten).
