U student sentenced for riot damage

Travis Hinck admitted kicking out the rear doors of a police van after police arrested him for throwing a glass bottle toward officers near the intersection of 13th Avenue Southeast and Fourth Street Southeast.

A judge sentenced Hinck to 12 days of work squad duty and 12 to 18 months of probation. He was also ordered pay $905 in restitution for damage caused to the police van.

Another University student, Jason Niehaus, pled guilty last month to second degree arson for setting fire to a parking lot attendant’s booth. Five others have been charged with felonies in connection with the riot.

A second University student pleaded guilty to a felony in connection with the April 12 riot in Dinkytown.
