John Roberts Jr. filled former Chief Justice William Rehnquist’s spot after his death. But with Sandra Day O’Connor’s resignation, there is still one opening.

President George W. Bush nominated Harriet Miers, but she withdrew the nomination in October. Bush has since nominated Samuel Alito.
In light of these vacancies, the Daily’s survey research department polled students to find out what they think about the Supreme Court changes. Because of the somewhat low response rate of 186 students from the random sample of 1,000 University students, it is not accurate to generalize the information we received to the whole student population at the University. The most interesting information is shown in graphs below.
