Men and women have solid showings

The Minnesota men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams took advantage of home cooking over spring break.

Competing in their home pool at the University Aquatics Center, both teams put forth impressive performances during the NCAA Championships.

Paced by junior David Plummer, the men’s team finished, finished 8th overall in the Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships which concluded on Saturday.

Plummer, an All-American, propelled the men’s team to a impressive overall finish with his fifth-place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1 minute and 42.75 seconds.

The women’s team used a combination of swimmers to acquire their highest finish in ten years in the Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships which ended on March 10.

In the process, the Gophers set eight school records – four of which were broken by sophomore Jenny Shaughnessy, who earned All-America honors in the 200 Individual Medely.
