Seniors Ryan Flynn and Tony Lucia will serve as co-captains for the men’s hockey program during the 2009-10 season.
According to Gopher Sports, head coach Don Lucia said: “It was evident by the team vote that Ryan and Tony would be our captains for 2009-10. Both are extremely hard working, team focused and representative of the program on and off the ice in a positive manner.”
Flynn has played in 118 games for Minnesota as a forward, scoring 47 points during the last three seasons. Tony Lucia, also a forward, played in 121 games for the Gophers, scored 54 points, and won the team’s Unsung Hero Award last year.
Flynn was an assistant captain last season, while Tony Lucia will begin his first season as a team captain. Though competition season hasn’t started yet, the two players are already leading the off-season conditioning for the team this summer. Don Lucia said assistant captains will be named in September prior to the start of the season.
