Two Minnesota football players have decided to leave the team and transfer at the end of the semester.
Redshirt freshman fullback Tommy Becker and redshirt freshman defensive end Sean McWhirter join former Gophers receiver Mike Chambers as the first players to jump off the Tim Brewster bandwagon.
Becker told the Star Tribune that frequent position changes and not getting a chance to play at linebacker, where he was recruited to play, led to his decision to leave the team.
A recruit of former Minnesota coach Glen Mason, Becker said he realized Brewster had his own new plans for the direction of the program.
Becker had been the team’s second-string fullback behind senior Justin Valentine while McWhirter was a fourth-string defensive end.
