Minnesota’s women’s hockey team pulled off an improbable sweep over the weekend versus third-ranked Brown on Saturday and Harvard on Sunday with a pair of 3-2 victories.
With less than four minutes remaining Sunday, the Gophers trailed the Crimson 2-0. Kelly Stephens scored twice to even the score, and Jerilyn Glenn netted the game-winner with 1:17 remaining.
Freshman Kristy Oonincx had the game winner on Saturday as fellow freshman Jody Horak stopped 32 of 34 Bear shots.
Grapplers capture titles
Minnesota’s wrestling team did not send any of its returning All-Americans to Saturday’s UNO Open, but Ryan Lewis and John Hardy brought home individual titles from Omaha, Neb.
Lewis, a junior at 133 pounds, won with two pins and two major decisions. He defeated Mark Jurgens of Iowa in the championship match, improving his season record to 8-0.
Hardy, a 165-pound junior, picked up the title after defeating Minnesota redshirt freshman Nate Baker in the championship match. The win pushes Hardy’s record to 7-1 on the year.
Women’s golf signs two
Minnesota’s women’s golf team announced Friday that Amy Schumucker and Courtney Mahon have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Gophers squad.
Swimmers and divers win
Minnesota’s men’s swimmers and divers won the Minnesota Invitational with 1,311 points, 594 points ahead of second-place Air Force.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Terry Silkaitis, Todd Smolinski, Matt Taylor, and Allen Ong finished first with a time of 3:00.80.
