The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers approved the .xxx domain for adult websites, Friday.
The top-level domain, the technical term for .com and .xxx portion of a URL, will be distributed to porn sites. But before adult websites adopt the new domain, .xxx will be sent to the next committee for approval.
Proponents of the .xxx domain say it is beneficial to the public because it is clear that the domain contains adult content.
