City Council expands mobile food ordinance

After a trial run, the mobile food ordinance has been expanded.
The Minneapolis City Council voted unanimously Friday to expand the areas where food carts can set up shop, including the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood near the University of Minnesota’s west bank campus.
The original ordinance, passed last year, only allowed food vendors in a portion of downtown.
But the ordinance proved to be popular among business owners like Turkey To-Go and Chef Shack, and the city explored expansion earlier this year.
Other areas of expansion include the Midtown Global Market and Greenway, East Lake Street and Loring Park.
