I strongly support University crime alerts. They are brief and have the clear objectives of letting us know what, where, when and by whom crimes are being committed. They also tell us how to safely respond to an attempted crime and how to avoid being a victim.
Unfortunately, Ed Hahn, in his Oct. 22 guest column, “Crime alert emails,” failed to recognize the hallmarks of good writing — his own craft — are identifying the audience and purpose for the piece being written.
