A woman was robbed in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood Friday morning, according to police.
Around 9 a.m., the woman was approached from behind by who appeared to be an adult male on the 800 block of 8th Street Southeast, according Minneapolis Police Department spokesperson John Elder. Claiming to have a gun, the male stole the victim’s backpack and phone, Elder said.
Although the male claimed to be armed, Elder said that no gun was seen. The suspect fled from the scene on foot. MPD is still working to put together a physical description of the suspect, Elder said.
“[The] victim was not injured physically,” said Elder, “And the Minneapolis Police Department has initiated an investigation.”
The incident is the latest in a series of crime reports near campus. Last week, an attempted abduction took place in Marcy-Holmes. Two days prior, a woman reported being “slapped and pinched on the behind” by five juvenile suspects in Stadium Village.
According to University of Minnesota spokesperson Lacey Nygard, the University of Minnesota Police Department was not alerted of the robbery, though it took place approximately five blocks from the University campus.
