As expected, some Minnesota hockey players were early selections in the 2009 NHL Draft.

Incoming freshman Nick Leddy was drafted 16th overall by the Minnesota Wild. A few picks later, sophomore Jordan Schroeder was taken off the board by the Vancouver Canucks.

Neither player has mentioned any plans to forego the 2009 season with the Gophers to pursue professional careers.

Rounds 2 through 7 of the draft take place Saturday and should see a few more Minnesota players selected.
