Freshman Amanda Kessel was named the WCHA rookie of the week after recording six points in the Gophers sweep of Clarkson.
Kessel contributed two goals and two assists Friday night as the Gophers shutout Clarkson 5-0 and broke a 0-0 tie midway through the second period Saturday helping the Gophers to a 3-0 victory.
Kessel recorded 13 shots on the weekend and centered the Gophers top line that included her, right wing Sarah Erickson and left wing Jen Schoullis.
The pre-season favorite for WCHA rookie of the year, Kessel recorded a hat trick in the Gophers exhibition opener against Manitoba on Sept. 26.
