A suspect is in police custody after shots were fired around 8:30 p.m. at Mariucci Arena Friday night after Wayzata graduation ceremony. Police said they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the area.
The University of Minnesota Police Department’s Chief of Police, Erik Swanson, said in an email statement two victims were transported by paramedics to the Hennepin County Medical Center.
He added their condition is unknown at this time.
“This is an active UMPD investigation with the assistance of the Minneapolis Police Department and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office,” Swanson said. “Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.”
Witnesses say the gunman shot a Wayzata High School student and a bystander after the ceremony. According to KARE11, a witness said she heard a fight break out among attendees, and then heard gunshots.
