Current and former Gophers wrestlers compete in U.S. Olympic Trials

Six wrestlers with ties to the University of Minnesota competed in this weekend’s U.S. Olympic Trials in Iowa City, Iowa, however none will be making the trip to London this summer.

Zach Sanders, C.P. Schlatter, Dustin Schlatter and Pat Smith were the only wrestlers that picked up wins. C.P. Schlatter advanced to the championship match but fell to Justin Lester.

Sanders defeated Angel Escobedo but fell to Mark McKnight and then Earl Hall to end his trials.

Dustin Schlatter defeated Todd Meneely before falling to Jared Frayer and withdrawing because of an injury.

Smith, a freshman who took a redshirt year this season for the Gophers, defeated Josh Castellano and then dropped his next two matches.

Jake Kettler, who also took a redshirt season this year, along with Gophers graduate assistant coach Kevin LeValley dropped both of their matches this weekend.
