A former University of Minnesota student died after she was hit by a car early Sunday morning near the construction site at the intersection of 12th Avenue and 4th Street.
Kandyce Stoffel, 23, was walking with a group of people around 3 a.m. when current University student, John Peterson, 23, hit her and Travis Smith, 25.
Smith and Stoffel were transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, where Stoffel was in critical condition on Sunday.
Peterson may have been under the influence of alcohol, Minneapolis police Sgt. Jesse Garcia said. Peterson was arrested on charges of criminal vehicular injury.
