More than 12,000 unbelted motorists ticketed during Click It or Ticket campaign

In a span of two weeks, more than 12,000 motorists got tickets for not buckling up as officers cracked down on seat-belt enforcement, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

The campaign, called "Click It or Ticket," spanned May 21 to June 3, and 12,639 tickets were issued for seat belt violations during that time.

An additional 301 citations were issued for child passenger safety seat violations, including those for booster seats. Booster seats are the law for children who have outgrown a forward-facing restraint, for use until age 8 or 4 feet 9 inches tall, whichever comes first. Boosters raise children up so seat belts fit properly.
