U professors receive grant for symbiosis research

The researchers consider symbiosis the foundation in food security and environmental quality.

With a $5.7 million grant from the National Science Foundation, three University of Minnesota professors hope to better understand the genetics of symbiosis. The three-year grant, announced Friday, will go to continue research on the relationship between the Medicago truncatula and the soil the legume lives in. Through the use of the Medicago, professor Nevin Young and his team want to learn more about symbiosis, which they consider the foundation in food security and environmental quality. Young, along with fellow professors Michael Sadowsky and Peter Tiffin, would like to use their research in high school and undergraduate classes. Check back with mndaily.com for more.
