Minority enrollment

The editorial on Oct. 11 criticizing the University for not having more minorities on campus (“Minority enrollment deserves attention”) was incredibly biased. The Editorial Board consistently finds statistics that minorities do worse than their white counterparts at the University. Without giving a reason, the Editorial Board blames the University rather than the students themselves for this finding. This attitude is blatant throughout the editorial. Near the end the Editorial Board asks us how the existence of “institutional racism” can be denied unless we “question the effort and capabilities of this country’s minorities.” Why is that so much more difficult than questioning the fairness and integrity of non-minorities? Why must we place all blame on one group for fear of placing any on another? This poorly thought editorial only contributes to the mind-numbing amount of tributes to diversity as an end in itself at this institution.
