A man died after falling from the Stadium Village light rail station as a train departed early Saturday morning, according to Metro Transit.

Police were alerted to the incident around 1:20 a.m., according to Metro Transit spokesperson Howie Padilla. He said the man fell between two cars of a west-bound Green Line train as it departed near the University of Minnesota. He died on the scene.

Transit police are reviewing video of the incident to find witnesses and figure out why the man fell. Padilla said he does not believe the man to be a University student.

The man who died in the accident was identified as 68-year-old Charles Donald of Minneapolis, according to a statement released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner on Wednesday. Donald died of multiple injuries sustained from the collision.
