Ultimate spring break checklist

Here’s how to make the most of your spring break without warm weather.

Spring break for many college students consists of venturing to Panama City, Fla., placing bets in Las Vegas or exploring the Caribbean on a cruise. I, however, will not be road-tripping of any kind, except for maybe to the suburbs. But just because I chose to stay in the cold Midwest does not mean that my time off from classes will go to waste. And neither will yours.

If staying close to campus is your thing, then going to see “The Fighter” at Coffman Union Theater on March 11 or 12, sponsored by Gophers After Dark, would be right up your alley. Oh, and did I mention itâÄôs free? If you want an evening off campus, and also full of laughter, then check out Comedy Sports in Uptown. While youâÄôre there, grab dinner at one of the local restaurants and make a night out of it.

Also, letâÄôs not forget about celebrating St. PatrickâÄôs Day. The one and only BlarneyâÄôs will have some excellent festivities, such as live music and drink specials. For those who are 21 and older, green beer will also be making the rounds âÄî in true Irish spirit.

When it comes to hanging back and relaxing over spring break âÄî which is what itâÄôs for, after all âÄî why not splurge a little and treat yourself to a few days of tanning or an extra workout at the gym. Or maybe youâÄôd rather watch reruns of “Jersey Shore” for an afternoon. Watching Snooki and the rest of the gang GTL and fist-bump the night away never truly gets old either, in my opinion.

Go ahead; pamper yourself to the leisure you deserve. My guess is that I am not the only one anxious for the stress of midterms to be over, and self-indulging is a great way to celebrate âÄî even if you happen to be in this no longer wondrous âÄî yet still wintery âÄî wonderland.

Hanging out in the Twin Cities over break has a lot to offer. Whether you are going to be around campus or adventuring to the suburbs, a little bit of planning and ingenuity will help you to have a great spring break âÄî without the sunburn, seasickness or empty wallet.
