Met Council report exposes serious housing woes
Published September 17, 2014
The Metropolitan Council released on Monday a draft of its long-term housing plan — the first such report in 30 years. According to its findings, the Twin Cities metro area is in need of more affordable housing units to avoid a potential housing deficit.
The University of Minnesota area exemplifies this issue. Luxury apartments have sprouted up in all campus-area neighborhoods, and their price ranges are certainly not for anyone with a low income.
We hope developers and policymakers heed the council’s recommendations and facilitate more affordable housing around the entire metro area.
