MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) âÄî Northern Iowa Area Community College’s football coach says a group of NFL players led by Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson have offered to help save the team. Coach Steve LaLonde says Peterson and three others have agreed to donate nearly $150,000 to the team so it can play in 2009. School officials announced plans on Tuesday to cut the program because of budget concerns. Northern Iowa Area Community College assistant coach Kevin Griffith has a tie to the Vikings star dating back to Peterson’s high school playing days in Texas. LaLonde says he hopes the money is enough to field a team next season while giving officials time to come up with a plan to save the program in the long run.
