Big Tens start for 3 U teams

The Gophers men’s tennis team heads into the Big Ten tournament in Champaign, Ill., today in hopes of resurrecting a mediocre season for the third straight year.
Minnesota finished third at the conference tourney two years ago and then went on to win advance to NCAAs. Last year, the Gophers finished as the runner-up following a losing regular season.
The Gophers, the No. 6 seed, play third-seeded Purdue in the first round at 9 a.m. today. If Minnesota advances, it would play the winner of Northwestern vs. Indiana.
Women’s tennis
The fifth-seeded Gophers women’s tennis team begins play at 10 a.m. today in the first round of the Big Ten tournament against fourth-seeded Michigan.
Minnesota finished the regular season 6-4 in the Big Ten. At the conference tourney last season, the Gophers lost in the first round to Northwestern.
Women’s golf
The Gophers women’s golf team is in University Park, Pa., this weekend for the Big Ten Championships.
Men’s golf cracks top 20
Buoyed by recent first and second place finishes, the Gophers men’s golf team broke into the top 20 in the GCAA Team Effort coaches poll released this week.
Minnesota, ranked 17th in the country, is the highest rated Big Ten team.
