Contrary to reports, Mason will not coach UNM

On Tuesday, several news outlets reported that former Gophers football coach Glen Mason would become the head coach at University of New Mexico after this season. However, Mason himself confirmed that aforementioned reports were false via his Twitter account.

“The rumors are not correct,” Mason said on his Twitter account @BTNGlenMason. “I am honored to be mentioned at NMU however I do not have interest at this time.”

He spoke to KFAN radio host Dan Barreiro at approximately 3:40 PM about the rumors.

Mason, who is currently an analyst for the Big Ten Network, told Barreiro that he “really enjoys the heck” out of his current job.

“The magnitude of [this false report] was mindboggling even for me, even after I’ve had all this experience in athletics,” he said. “There’s absolutely no truth to it.”
