The Minnesota men’s club crew team competed with solid results at in Rockford, Ill., on Saturday.
The Gophers were competing at the Head of the Rock Regatta, the largest regatta in the Midwest, with over 30 college and club crew teams.
And Minnesota faired well against that competition. The Gophers had five silver-medal finishes over the weekend.
The varsity team of Chris Kleingartner and Kevin Curley placed second in the men’s open pair, Todd Beyruther took second in the men’s open single and the lightweight 4 placed second in a squeaker to Marquette.
The novice 8 team finished second, and the novice 4 teams finished second, fourth and eighth for the best finish.
Minnesota will hit the water again Oct. 23-24, at the Head of the Charles regatta in Boston. The meet is the largest in the world, with over 5,000 rowers competing.
