Senior goalie Lindsey Dare lets loose on a ball last season. Dare has taken advantage of the Gophers’ solid defense all year as she has recorded five shut outs in six games this season.

Her name is quickly filling MinnesotaâÄôs record book. SheâÄôs shutting out opponents with little difficulty and has already earned a Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week award . But senior goalkeeper Lindsey Dare is not here for the accolades and records âÄî sheâÄôs here for the team. âÄúI just like to play out here with my friends,âÄù Dare said. âÄúThatâÄôs why IâÄôm here.âÄù The modest DareâÄôs name has been scattered throughout the GophersâÄô record book, as sheâÄôs proving to be one of the programâÄôs all-time best goalkeepers. Since playing in her 2,000th career minute earlier this season , Dare has become the programâÄôs all-time leader in goals-against average with a miniscule 0.73. The other career statistic Dare is making noise with is shutouts. By posting five shutouts in six games this season, Dare has increased her total to 13, one shy of becoming third on the GophersâÄô all-time list. The stats donâÄôt end there. Dare is fourth all-time in career wins, with 15, three shy of taking over third place in the record book. And she only needs to play another 30 minutes, 57 seconds to be fifth in career minutes played by a goalkeeper. Dare has spread her name throughout the single-season record book, too. She is fifth in saves at 101 and her 0.93 goals-against average in 2006 is second all-time. If everything goes well this season, Dare will move up in the shutouts category, as her next shutout will boost her into fifth. Dare, a two-time letter-winner , said she is honored to be in the record book, but itâÄôs not all her. âÄúI give the credit to my coaches and my defenders,âÄù Dare said. âÄúTheyâÄôve shaped me into what I am today.âÄù This shows, as Dare said the stat she is most proud of is shutouts, but not because sheâÄôs blanking opponentsâÄô offenses. âÄúShutouts are pretty sweet because theyâÄôre a reflection of the team defense and how hard we work as a team,âÄù Dare said. âÄúItâÄôs a really good reflection of what the team has accomplished and somehow I get my name put in the record book.âÄù This is the mindset she has played with throughout her career. âÄúIâÄôm not here to be an awesome goalie,âÄù Dare said. âÄúIâÄôm here to win a team championship.âÄù Dare said her goal this year is for the team to win the Big Ten Championship and to make a run in the NCAA Tournament in November . âÄúThe kidâÄôs got a heart of gold and she wants whatâÄôs best for everyone,âÄù assistant coach Jerrod Roh said. Despite the records Dare has set and the awards she has received, her favorite memory doesnâÄôt involve either. Last seasonâÄôs 1-0 double overtime win against No. 8 Penn State is her fondest, she said. DareâÄôs modest attitude may be understandable at this point in the season because the Gophers have surrendered only 24 shots , but by the end of the season the praise may be more focused on her than the 10 players in front of her. Dare has only had to face seven shots on goal this season, six of which she saved, but with the Big Ten schedule rapidly approaching, that could soon change. âÄúThe day will come when her team needs her and she needs to be sharp,âÄù Roh said. âÄúWith the games forthcoming, we will be challenged.âÄù âÄúLindseyâÄôs played well for us, but a lot of the credit needs to go to the defense,âÄù head coach Mikki Denney Wright said . When that happens, Dare will likely defer most compliments to her teammates and quietly take on her role as a team leader. âÄúShe is a leader and she takes pride in that and being an example for her sisters on the team,âÄù Roh said. If the team wins and Dare continues to set records, sheâÄôs confident that she will still be her modest self. âÄúStats and records really donâÄôt matter to me at all,âÄù Dare said. âÄúI could be last in all the records but if the team does well IâÄôm a happy camper.âÄù
