Men’s track and field pulls in recruits

With National Signing Day having come and gone, the men’s and women’s track teams haven’t yet filled out an entire team, but that’s not unusual according to men’s head coach Steve Plasencia.

The class he’s pulled in so far includes Blake Zeiger, Aaron Bartnik, Goaner Deng, Jacob Fenske, Thomas Helstern, Zachary Siegmeier, Christian Skaret, Trevor Yedoni, and Adam Zutz.

Yedoni is a state high jump champion from Benilde-St. Margarets, who cleared 6’10 1/2″ last year. Plasencia called it a very nice signing for the team, as Yedoni was choosing between the Gophers and Wisconsin.

Bartnik is a 2009 class 4-A state champion from Eden Prarie. He hurt his foot a month before the 2010 state meet, but there aren’t indications that it is a long-term injury.

Zutz is the 2010 class 2-A cross country champion out of St. Francis, and he also has a Griak Invitational title to his name.

Plasencia couldn’t go into specifics about ongoing recruiting, per NCAA rules, but he said the team is still actively pursuing more potential recruits with the hope of signing them to a National Letter of Intent.
