I support gun control initiatives. I opposed the concealed carry bill.

What is your position on a statewide smoking ban?

I support it.

What is your position on same-sex marriage? Should marriage be dealt with at a state or federal level?

I oppose the constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage and civil unions.

What is your position on abortion? How do you feel about the “Women’s Right to Know” Act?

I am pro-choice. I voted against the “Women’s Right to Know” Act. Its title was deceptive!

I support it. I believe the University’s research is necessary and important work.

How should Minnesota deal with the current traffic congestion problems?

Increased population density, highway gridlock and resultant environmental degradation threaten our economic, civic and personal well-being. We need an assured revenue stream to adequately fund a regional transportation system that invests in both roads and mass transit, creating choices for a healthy future.

What is your position on health care?

Every Minnesotan should be assured access to affordable health care.

Would you change our current tax policy? How?

I would place emphasis less on property taxes and more on broad-based, progressive taxes. The “no new taxes” pledge has not served our state well.

What is your position on funding for higher education?

We have failed badly with our huge cuts to higher education. We need to turn that around to assure fair access, high quality and affordability. That would be good for students and good for the state’s economy.
