Women’s track takes 2nd at meet

The Minnesota women’s track and field team had a weekend highlighted by personal bests despite its 178-128 loss to Georgia on Saturday.
Senior Christine Gulbrandsen won the pole vault and set a Fieldhouse record with her 12-foot vault. Gulbrandsen also won the triple jump.
The distance contingent made its presence known for the Gophers as well. Rasa Michniovaite won the mile (4:55.7), Corinne Nimtz won the 3,000-meter run (9:52.50) and Jessica Shuster won her first collegiate race with her 34.67 effort in the 600.
As usual, the Minnesota effort in the weight throw was impressive. The Gophers picked up three of the top four spots in the throw, with Beth Howard edging teammate Aubrey Schmitt by less than 3 inches.
The Gophers will host another meet this weekend against Northern Iowa and Minnesota State.
