Hungry? These restaurants near campus are still open for takeout or delivery

A&E rounded up a list of restaurants still operating near the University of Minnesota in Dinkytown, Como, Northeast and West Bank.

As the days become longer and we have nowhere to be but home, we may be telling ourselves it’s time to start cooking real, homemade meals.

But let’s admit it — we all miss the experience of sitting at a restaurant and ordering food that’s better than anything we’ll ever cook ourselves. 

A&E has compiled a list of local businesses near campus to satisfy all of your takeout cravings. 


Maya Cuisine: Fresh, authentic Mexican eats are available everyday at Maya Cuisine. Orders can be placed to-go over the phone, or delivered via DoorDash. 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; (612) 789-0775

Khao Hom Thai: Closed. 

Holy Land: Mediterranean eats can be picked up or delivered at Holy Land. Order online or over the phone for takeout, or use Bite Squad or Uber Eats for delivery. The closest location is at 2513 Central Ave. NE in Minneapolis. Monday – Sunday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; (612) 781- 2627

Masu Sushi & Robata: Closed. 

Northeast Social: To satisfy American cravings during the pandemic, Northeast Social is your near-campus go-to. Delivery is available for customers within a two-mile radius of the restaurant and those outside of delivery distance can pick up takeout at the store. The restaurant has added more takeout-friendly meals to their menu, including ribs and brisket. Also available for order through DoorDash, Grubhub, Uber Eats or Bite Squad.Tuesday – Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; (612) 877-8111

Sen Yai Sen Lek: Closed. 

Young Joni: This upscale pizza restaurant tucked in Northeast Minneapolis is still open for takeout at 165 13th Ave. NE. Phone lines open daily at 2 p.m., two hours ahead of the restaurant opening. Order takeout 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday; 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 612-345-5719 ext. 11

Brasa Premium Rotisserie: The Creole-style restaurant located at 600 E. Hennepin Ave. is open, offering a slightly scaled back menu. Online orders can be picked up curbside or delivered. Payment is credit card-only and an automatic 15% tip benefits a relief for employees who are temporarily out of work.12 to 8 p.m. Tuesday – Thursday and Sunday; 12 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday; (612) 379-3030

Rusty Taco: Rusty Taco is open and offers pickup or free delivery on their website. Orders must consist of $20 or more to qualify for delivery. Monday – Thursday, 10:45 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Friday – Sunday, 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; (612) 315-5372


Maxwell’s Café & Grill: This neighborhood eatery and convenience shop is still open and taking orders through Uber Eats and Bite Squad. It’s a go-to for late night bites. 10 a.m. to midnight; (612) 331-4585

Aster Cafe: Takeout service starts at 5 p.m. daily. Food can be picked up at Jefe Urban Hacienda.(612) 379-3138

Alma Cafe & Restaurant: The cafe is offering curbside pickup of pastries, coffee, snacks, meals, wine and beer. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday – Sunday.  Order and pay online. (612) 379-4909


Al’s Breakfast: The legendary breakfast spot’s full menu is available for takeout, and they’ve added items like pancake batter, bacon, corned beef hash, coffee beans, salsa and hollandaise sauce for bulk order. While Al’s is still cash only, you have the option of buying a prepaid tab on their website. Prepaid tabs run from $20 to $500. They are not completing orders through delivery services so orders are only for takeout/curbside pickup, but the exchange is contact-free and quick. Shuang Cheng: Open for takeout and curbside delivery. They are still serving their full menu and are not delivering through any delivery services. Shuang Cheng has created pick up stations to allow guests to wait at a designated station for their food while it’s being made. They do experience dinner rushes, so they ask for your patience as you try to get through to order on the phone because their lines will be busy. If you can’t get through or get sent to voicemail, keep trying until someone has answered. Monday – Friday, 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.; Sunday, 12 p.m. – 10 p.m.; (612) 378-0208

Wally’s Falafel & Hummus: Wally’s is offering takeout, curbside pickup, and delivery through Bite Squad and DoorDash. You can order over the phone, in-person or online. They are offering 10% discounts on all orders and 10% off with a student ID. Open daily, 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.; (612) 746-4776

Blarney Pub and Grill: While Blarney is not open at this time, you can still order from its sister restaurant, Pog Mahone’s. They are open for takeout and curbside pickup upon request. You can also find them on Postmates and DoorDash. Open daily, 2 – 8 p.m.; (612) 236-4724

Mesa Pizza: Open for delivery from 4 – 10:45 p.m. In-store pick up and slices to go are available during the day. They regularly post about discounts on their Facebook page so check before ordering. Sunday – Thursday, 11 a.m. – 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. – midnight; (612) 436-3006

Annie’s Parlour: Annie’s is closed as of April 2.

Frank from Philly & Andrea Pizza: Frank & Andrea’s will be open for takeout and online ordering, as well as delivery through DoorDash, Uber Eats, Bite Squad and Grubhub. As of April 2, Frank & Andrea’s will be donating $1,000 worth of their two-slice combo to those in need through an honor-based system. Monday – Saturday, 11 a.m. – 3 a.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m. – midnight; (612) 208-1973

Pagoda: Open for takeout and delivery, seven days a week. They are still offering their full menu. You can place your order over the phone and if lines are busy, call back at a later time. Open daily, 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.; (612) 378-4710;


Thai Cuisine Xpress: Open for curbside pickup. Their full menu is available to order and the menu is on their website, with photos. Monday – Saturday, 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Closed Sunday. (612) 354-7782;

Black Coffee and Waffle Bar: Open for takeout orders and delivery. They do delivery orders through Uber Eats and Bite Squad, and they’ve also added their coffee beans to the menu. Add a note in the order if you want them to ground your coffee beans for you at the store. Check their Facebook page for additional information on specialty waffles and orders while they are closed for in-store dining. Open daily, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.; (612) 436-0719

Ramen Kazama: Open for takeout and delivery. They are currently offering ramen kits delivered through Bite Squad. To cook the ramen kit, boil the noodles for 90 seconds, heat up the broth, add the broth and then the noodles to a bowl, and add your toppings. Blue Door Pub: Blue Door Pub closed their Como location and will be operating exclusively through their Longfellow location. They will be doing no contact pickup and have condensed their menu, so check their website for updates. Thursday – Saturday, 4 – 8 p.m., Sunday, 4 – 7 p.m.; (612) 315-2470

Potter’s Pasties & Pies: Potter’s does not currently have any active trucks, but their location at 1828 Como Ave. SE is still open for pick-up and takeout. Their pasties are still made fresh to order so call ahead, text them or order through Postmates. Thursday – Saturday 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.; (612) 819-3107

Como Tap: As of April 9, Como Tap is closed. 

West Bank

Flamin’ Thai: Flamin’ Thai brings fusion Thai and Laotian food close to campus. Orders can be placed online for delivery or pickup, and the company also uses delivery services Uber Eats, Bite Squad and Grubhub. Monday – Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; (612) 224-9691

Hard Times Cafe: Closed. 

Malabari Kitchen: Order online through ChowNow. Closed Mondays. Tuesday – Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; (612) 361-6777
