Trio of Gophers win WCHA weekly awards

Three Gophers women's hockey players earned WCHA weekly honors Wednesday after sweeping Minnesota-Duluth 5-0 and 6-2 last weekend.

The conference tabbed junior forward Amanda Kessel its Co-Offensive Player of the Week for tallying eight points against the Bulldogs. Her three goals and five assists helped the Gophers clinch the fastest-ever WCHA regular season trophy. Kessel shares the award with North Dakota's Josefine Jakobsen. This is Kessel's fifth award this season and ninth of her career.

Freshman forward Hannah Brandt earned another Rookie of the Week title for her five points against Minnesota-Duluth. She recorded a goal and four assists. Brandt has earned this award seven times this season.

Senior goaltender Noora Räty took home the Defensive Player of the Week honor for breaking the NCAA Division I record for career wins. She currently has 102 victories. The Finland native tallied 40 saves against the Bulldogs. This is Räty's fourth award this season and 13th of her career.

Minnesota has now won 19 weekly awards this season. The Gophers will look to add more to their collection when they compete at Ohio State this weekend.
