A 16-year-old boy died on a flight from Washington state to Georgia on Saturday, news sources report.

The Delta Air Lines flight from Seattle made an emergency landing in Spokane, Wash.,  CNN reported.

He died of natural causes, the Associated Press reported.

The boy was flying with his mother to his father's new military base for Christmas, according to CNN. Examiners will perform an autopsy on Monday.

The Boeing 767 plane where the boy died was carrying 258 passengers, the AP said.

The flight was expected to be delayed by about 7 hours, according to CNN.
