The Gophers women's rowing team's first varsity eight has earned Big Ten Boat of the Week honors, the conference announced Tuesday.

The boat went 3-0 at the Oklahoma Invitational in Oklahoma City last weekend, notching victories over Kansas State, Oklahoma and Tulsa.  The Gophers won three-fourths of their races at the Invitational, their first event of the spring season.

The Gophers' top varsity boat returns eight of nine of its members from last season's crew, which finished fifth at the Big Ten championships.

"We've made some mistakes last year," head coach Wendy Davis said last Wednesday, "but all of those people are returning, and they won't make those mistakes this year."

The Gophers will compete on March 24 in a dual regatta against Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn.
