Cultural Celebration Friday

by Nickalas Tabbert

Multicultural chapters will hold their annual Cultural Celebration event Friday night to showcase cultural learning and interaction.

The event, in its 9th year, will see a significant change in its format to include more student participation, said Edwin Bonfil, a coordinator of the event.  It will also feature dancing, games and some performances.

"In the past the event has been heavily performance based," he said.  "We will be moving away from that last year, only keeping a few dynamic and explosive ones."

Bonfil said it takes several months to decide upon a theme that promotes culture and movement.  This year, it will be "the Colosseum."  Last year, it was a "marketplace of cultures."  Bonfil said the idea is for audience members to "get lost" in the theme through interaction.

The two-hour event was planned by 15 student groups, most of whom will also feature booths for audience memebers to interact at, Bonfil said.

The celebration will take place in Coffman's Great Hall.  The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the show begins at 6:00.
