U’s finance requests approved

All the University’s bonding projects were approved Monday for further inspection by the House Capital Investment Committee.

The Higher Education Finance Committee prioritized the projects and cut $10 million from the University’s $80 million Higher Education Asset Preservation and Replacement request – which covers projects such as fixing roofs, removing asbestos and painting.

It was the only funding adjustment made to the University request. All Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system projects were also approved.

“I think what we’re saying is that the University and the MnSCU system did a good job of putting together their list of priorities and we support them in that list,” said Rep. Peggy Leppik, R-Golden Valley, and chairwoman of the Higher Education Finance Committee.

The Capital Investment Committee will review the prioritized projects Tuesday, evaluating specific funding levels for each project. – Mike Zacharias
