Reports indicate that iconic film critic Roger Ebert died today after a long struggle with his health. He was 70. Rising to popularity due to his antagonizing relationship with Gene Siskel in the late 70s and early 80s, Ebert reported on movies for over 40 years with the Chicago Sun Times and its affiliates.
As a native Chicagoan and cinephile, Siskel and Ebert were childhood idols of mine. With both of those greats now gone, I find a vacuum in the world of movie criticism—a void I expect will never be filled.
