“Chemical spill” determined to be bad smell

The “possible chemical spill” students heard about in a TXT-U alert Thursday night and Friday morning is actually an unidentified bad odor that’s not danger, University spokeswoman Patty Mattern said today. No related health problems have been reported.

The smell, seemingly emanating from Harvard and Delaware Streets SE in Stadium Village, didn’t come from any building in particular, Mattern said, and it could have come from a sewer. “It was a strong, unpleasant odor” that someone smelled and called in, she said.

University police and the Environmental Health and Safety are still investigating.
