Senior guard Carlos Morris has been taken off the Gophers basketball team, head coach Richard Pitino announced Wednesday.

The reason for the senior guard’s dismissal was “conduct detrimental to the team,” according to a press release, and Pitino declined to address the specifics of the decision.

“Certainly [a] disappointing turn of events,” Pitino said. “He’s off the team, and we move on. It’s always tough when something like that happens, but you move on and prepare for Maryland.”

Morris’ name did not appear in a search of court documents on Wednesday.

The Apalachicola, Fla., native averaged 9.8 points per game for the Gophers this season and started 16 of the team’s 25 games. He averaged 11.1 points per game while starting 25 of 33 games last year after transferring from Chipola College.

Morris was replaced by freshman guard Dupree McBrayer in the starting lineup Jan. 12 at Nebraska and never started another game.

He played only four minutes in Minnesota’s last game against Iowa.

Morris will stay on scholarship and will have access to academic services for the remainder of the year, according to the press release.
