Summit plans $6 million brewery expansion

Summit Brewing Co. told the Star Tribune Monday that it is planning a $6 million expansion at its brewery in St. Paul.

With an increased demand for its beer, "we will be in a world of hurt if (the expansion) doesn't happen,"  Summit founder and Chief Executive Mark Stutrud told the Strib. The expansions will include more space for fermentation, storage and packaging.

Summit, which launched in 1986 and is sold in 15 states, is Minnesota's largest craft brewer.

The company experienced an 8 percent production increase last year, reaching almost 105,000 barrels.
