Woman allegedly raped in hospital

Minneapolis police are investigating a sex crime that occurred at Fairview-University Medical Center last week.
A Hennepin County man was charged Thursday with third- and fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct after allegedly raping a 20-year-old woman at the hospital’s Riverside center.
The center is located near the University’s West Bank on Riverside Avenue.
Douglas W. Young, 40, allegedly lured the woman into his hospital room around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. Both were patients at the Fairview Chemical Dependency Unit, where the crime occurred.
The woman entered Young’s room expecting to look at a CD player when Young allegedly sexually assaulted her, according to Hennepin County Court documents.
Afterward, the woman reported the incident to another patient and hospital staff, who then called police.
After Minneapolis police arrived, they arrested Young and booked him in Hennepin County Jail.
“We have taken this incident very seriously,” said Jean Tracy, a representative for Fairview-University Medical Center.
Tracy said the medical center has never experienced such an incident in the past.
Neither the prosecuting nor defense attorney could be reached for comment.
