The hidden perks of being a Big Ten football coach

From associate director of atheltic communications Andy Seeley:

Brewster, Maturi To Open NASDAQ Monday in NYC

University of Minnesota head football coach Tim Brewster and Director of Athletics Joel Maturi will help preside over the opening bell of the NASDAQ Monday morning in New York City.

Through the Insight Bowl’s partnership with Insight Enterprises, the Director of Athletics and Head Coach from each team participating in the bowl game will take part in the opening bell ceremony. Joining Maturi and Brewster will be their counterparts from the University of Kansas – Director of Athletics Lew Perkins and Head Coach Mark Mangino.

The bell-ringing ceremony is scheduled to take place at 9:30 a.m. ET (8:30 a.m. CT). The ceremony can be viewed online at www.NASDAQ.com.

I know what you’re thinking.  A perk? Really?  OK, so maybe it’s not the most exciting event in the history of man, but I found it interesting nonetheless.  I certainly can’t say I’ve rung the NASDAQ’s opening bell before.  Brewster opening the NASDAQ seems fitting to me.  The coach of a Gophers team that’s been slipping recently opening a market that’s been slipping for even longer?  A match made in heaven.  Who knows, maybe a turnaround by Minnesota in Tempe will cause the NASDAQ to rebound.  Or maybe I’m reading into it too much…
