Dehn earns Big Ten Tennis Athlete of the Week honor

Senior Julian Dehn has been named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week after advancing to the semifinals in both singles and doubles this past weekend at the Lakewood Ranch Clay Court Intercollegiate Classic in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.

Dehn went 3-1 in singles over the weekend. He defeated Florida’s Andrew Butz in three sets, and split sets with No. 3 seed Chris Thiemann from Mississippi before Thiemann had to retire. Dehn then defeated Arizona’s Giacomo Miccini, who withdrew after two sets before falling in the semifinals to Oklahoma State’s Vlad Bondarenko in three sets.

Dehn and freshman Mathieu Froment defeated Miccini and Andre Vidaller of Arizona to reach the semifinals in doubles. They were subsequently defeated by Alabama’s Daniil Proskura and Carlos Taborga.

Dehn and junior Rok Bonin won the doubles championship last year at the tournament.

This is the first time Dehn has been received this honor, and the first time for a Minnesota tennis player since Tobias Wernet in April.
