Golfers

The Gophers women’s golf team stood in sixth place with a score of 328 after the first day of the 17-team Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational at Tuscawilla Country Club in Winter Park, Fla.
Senior Michelle Ballou (39-41 80) is in a six-way tie for 14th place and Melanie Lepp (43-38 81) is in a five-way tie for 20th.
Two-time defending tournament champion Campbell opened its bid for a three-peat with a team score of 312 on Monday. Campbell holds a seven stroke advantage over Penn State, with Alabama-Birmingham 11 strokes back.
Laura Torrisi of Campbell is the individual leader after opening with a 75, followed by Vicki Matkovich of Longwood College (76). Karen Calvesbert of Rollins College and Emily Bastel of Michigan State are tied for third at 77.
The tournament will conclude with 18 holes today.
