Warren Anderson, Republican

.What is your position on gun control?

Against. Enforce current laws and prosecute to fullest those who use/misuse guns in crime. Encourage or expect gun safety training when a gun is purchased.

What is your position on a statewide smoking ban?

Against.

What is your position on same-sex marriage? Should marriage be dealt with at a state or federal level?

Against same-sex marriage. I do not like the idea of a constitutional amendment at either level, but I do not trust many in the judicial branch and their love of subverting the Constitution.

What is your position on abortion? How do you feel about the “Women’s Right to Know” Act?

Against abortion, except in case of saving the life of the mother or rape/incest. Support the “Women’s Right to Know” Act.

What is your position on stem cell research? Should the state government fund stem cell research?

Not from aborted fetus. Am open to hearing all other arguments.

How should Minnesota deal with current traffic congestion problems?

I support and would fight for the personal rapid transit concept. It will bring jobs to Minnesota and it is good for the environment and users. Against light rail transit.

What is your position on health care?

I support medical Individual Retirement Arrangements and allowing small businesses to band together for discounts that bigger groups and companies get.

Would you change the current tax policy? If so, how?

Flat tax with a 15 percent and 20 percent rate. Or look at a sales-tax based system, eliminating income tax. Must find something fair, easy and with few to no loopholes.

What is your position on funding for higher education?

I would spend a lot less on sports teams and coaches and direct that money to professor salaries and student aid. No more stadium building. The purpose of higher education is education. I would look at more grants and aid, but that would be “paid back” to the state through service for the state. A WPA or CCC program where students learn then serve.
