U of St. Thomas priest on leave, lawsuit expected

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis says a popular professor at the University of St. Thomas has taken a voluntary leave of absence.

The archdiocese and the university wouldn’t provide the reason for Rev. Michael Keating’s leave or whether it has anything to do with a lawsuit that’s expected to be filed alleging Keating had sexual contact with a minor girl when he was in the seminary.

Attorney Jeff Anderson says he plans to file the lawsuit Monday in Ramsey County and provide details on how archdiocese officials handled the report given to them in 2006.

The 57-year-old Keating is an associate professor of Catholic studies at the University of St. Thomas. Keating did not immediately return a phone call or email seeking comment.
