Owner: Nephew left Fla. home just before plane hit

A South Florida man whose home was sliced in two by a small plane says his nephew left the home only shortly before the crash.

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. (AP) âÄî A South Florida man whose home was sliced in two by a small plane says his nephew left the home only shortly before the crash. Oscar Nolasco’s home burst into flames when the small plane plummeted in Oakland Park, Fla., around 11:20 a.m. Friday morning. The 52-year-old says his nephew, Alex Martines, left a short time before the plane hit to visit his aunt. Nolasco says he thought it was a joke when authorities called him to tell him about the crash. He says “everything is gone” at the home and he’s staying at a hotel and getting assistance from the Red Cross. Federal aviation officials say one person was aboard the plane. It isn’t known if that person survived. The plane radioed for help shortly after takeoff.
