Gophers earning preseason recognition

Phil Steele announced his preseason NCAA football awards this week, projecting 10 Gophers to receive Big Ten honors by season’s end.
Among the predictions is Minnesota wide receiver Eric Decker, who Steele projects will earn Second-Team All-America honors as well as First-Team Big Ten honors.
Decker, a senior from Cold Spring, Minn., was a consensus first team All-Big Ten selection and one of 10 finalists for the Biletnikoff Award in 2008.
Other Gophers in the predictions include senior cornerback Traye Simmons and wide receiver Hayo Carpenter, a junior college tranfer. Steele projects both to earn second-team Big Ten awards.
